The section is open to people who are interested in issues surrounding the design, synthesis and development of new drugs.

Every other year the section hands out the “Medicinal Chemistry Price,” an honorary award for individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of Medicinal Chemistry.

The Section for Medicinal Chemistry was founded in 1972 and has about 220 members.
