What Can We Learn from Each Other Across the AtlanticPharmacy Education, Clinical Training, and Oral GLP-1 Use in the United States

Welcome to a presentation that compares U.S. and Swedish pharmacy education and clinical training. It reviews oral GLP-1 receptor agonists in the United States, including pharmacology and clinical evidence.

Fourth-year pharmacy students from the United States, Matthew Jones and Mason Houston will present an overview of U.S. pharmacy education and clinical rotations, highlighting similarities and differences compared with Swedish pharmacy education.

The presentation will also focus on oral GLP-1 receptor agonists available in the United States, covering their basic pharmacology, clinical evidence, and therapeutic use. Real-world practice experiences from the U.S. will be shared to provide practical insight. The aim is to stimulate discussion and knowledge exchange among pharmacists.

The presentation will be held in English.

About the speakers

Matthew Jones

Current fourth year pharmacy student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy in Knoxville, TN. He is in his final Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE). Current clinical interests are in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, and Cardiology. Following graduation and licensure, he plans to pursue a Postgraduate Year Training (PGY-1) pharmacy residency.

Mason Houston 

Current fourth year pharmacy student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy in Knoxville, TN. This is his final Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE). Clinical interests are neuro critical care, emergency medicine, and ambulatory care. Post graduation plans, he is set to work in community retail setting at Publix pharmacy.
